Mobile Farm Visit

In our final term of the 2020-2021 year, we were very lucky and excited to welcome ‘Ian’s Mobile Farm’ to Inkersall Spencer Academy. Ian came in his truck and pitched up his portable stables in our Year 1 outdoor area. The staff and children were amazed at how many animals strolled out the back!

Reception had been learning all about ‘What lives on a Farm?’ and Ian’s visit was the perfect way to celebrate and finish a different year due to COVID.

Children from Nursery, Reception and Year 1 all had the opportunity to spend time with Ian and his animals. He brought a real variety of animals for us to see. We had the chance to spend some time with sheep, two alpacas, rabbits, a tortoise, guinea pigs, donkeys, ducks, chickens, a pig and a very friendly sheepdog.

The classes all had an educational talk from Ian about what animals he has on his farm and the animals he had brought with him. Questions were asked as to how he tends for the animals, what they eat, where they live and how they are looked after.

The children were able to get up close with the range of animals, stroke them, feed them and even played a long game of catch with the sheepdog, Jess. If the children weren’t tired that day, Jess definitely was!

The whole day was an incredible experience for our children and their behaviour was impeccable. Ian commented on what a fantastic group we have!
