Inkersall have won £10,000 as part of the Aviva Community grant to create a brand new library space.
The Aviva Community Fund offers an opportunity for members of the public to win funding for causes important to the community, including for local schools.
The charity will fund more than 500 projects across three categories in the current funding round, with potential projects distributed across the UK. After initial applications, projects needed to receive enough public votes in a competitive process to qualify in order to receive funding.
Inkersall’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) bid for the grant back in Autumn last year. The school’s PTA, chaired by Nicole Browne, is a parent-led organisation which works to support the school by providing resources and hosting a number of activities and events.
Nicole Browne commented: “Each member of the PTA is thrilled to have won the additional funding from Aviva. One of our aims, alongside others, has always been to improve the facilities offered by the school and to hopefully improve the pupils education as a result. We hope that by using the funds to upgrade the library facilities, the children at Inkersall will thrive in the area of reading and it will continue to have a positive impact on their education for many years to come.”
Inkersall currently has a large library but lacks the resources and organisation for pupils to use facilities freely, or to meet expectations of everything a school library can be.
The £10,000 grant will be spent to create a stimulating and text-rich environment for pupils, with relaxing seating areas and storage shelves, as well as an additional outdoor reading area.
Inkersall also plan to implement an electronic system allowing pupils to take responsibility for the books they loan and developing their independence.
A wide range of genres and electronic books will be supplied to make sure every child’s interests and needs are met.
When the library is complete, parents and carers will be invited to read alongside their child and to hold story time events, allowing older members of the community to visit too.
Go team Inkersall!
