Year four Inkersall pupils have earned a starring role in the spring edition of Your Chesterfield magazine.
Your Chesterfield is the magazine of the Chesterfield Borough Council, and features stories of community interest, including family activities and engagement in the local area.
Inkersall pupils Poppy and Maddy featured in a double-page spread with the headline, ‘Youngsters take pride in Inkersall.’
The article covered a school initiative, in which children decided to take responsibility for cleaning up the Inkersall Green public area opposite the school. A litter pick was chosen as the community project which would make most difference, and the local Co-op supermarket approached for support.
The Co-op referred Inkersall children to their community programme, and offer of litter pickers, gloves and bags made to help them on the day.
Year four pupil Poppy told the magazine, “It’s important to pick up litter because if people don’t stop dropping it, we’ll have a world full of litter.”
Other local schools interesting in scheduling a community litter pick exercise are encouraged to contact the council environmental services team on 01246 345345.
Together, community involvement and environmental days form a key part of the annual Chesterfield in Bloom initiative. For more information on Chesterfield in Bloom – or on the best kept garden competition – see here.
